FYS-8031 Ultrasound imaging technology 8 stp

Course contents

The course provides a basic understanding of the physics and technology used in ultrasonic measurement and imaging systems. Central topics include wave propagation in fluid and solid materials, focused and unfocused transducers, array transducers, beamforming, scattering from tissue, and image formation. The course includes project assignments involving numerical modeling, experimental investigation of ultrasonic waves and signal processing of experimental data.

Application deadline

Applicants from Nordic countries: 1 June for the autumn semester and 1 December for the spring semester. Exchange students and Fulbright students: 15 April for the autumn semester and 1 October for the spring semester.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements are a Bachelor's degree in physics or similar education, including specialisation in physics worth the equivalent of not less than 80 ECTS credits. Local admission, application code 9371 - singular courses at Master's level.

Language of instruction

The language of instruction is English and all of the syllabus material is in English. Examination questions will be given in English, but may be answered either in English or a Scandinavian language.

Teaching methods

Lectures: 40 hours

Laboratory exercises: 16 hours


Assessment

Coursework requirements:

Access to the final examination requires completing and passing the mandatory assignments.

Examination:

Assessment scale: Letter grades A - F, F is failed
